HOW TO JOIN

If you are currently in the 4th grade or older (including teens and adults) and are interested in becoming an Altar Server please do the following:
1. Complete a registration form and sign up for one of two new server training sessions at this link: 2024-2025 New Altar Server Registration and Training Signup. Please note you will a PDF copy of the Baptismal and First Eucharist Certificates to upload with the registration. 

2. Attend at least one of the two training sessions. Training will include basic elements of the Liturgy as well as duties of the altar server.

3. Upon completion of training, you will need to sign up using Sign-up Genius to be shadowed by an experienced server for at least four masses.

4. Once you complete your shadowing and are ready to serve, you will be given access to the regular schedule to sign up using Sign-up Genius. You can always ask a more experienced server or the altar server coordinator to be there with you as first start serving.

EXPECTATIONS FOR ALTAR SERVERS

The Altar Server Handbook is the comprehensive resource for all altar servers and includes information on how to join, sign ups, step-by step procedures, a guide to liturgy, an annoted glossary with photos, example so acceptable an unacceptable shoes, the dress code, etc. 

1. Responsibility: When you have signed up to serve, mark it on your calendar and prepare to get to church 20 minutes before mass time (for special masses, you may be asked to arrive at least 30 minutes before mass time). If you cannot serve when you are signed up, please delete your sign up on Sign-up Genius and make every effort to find a substitute.
2. After mass, please offer to help the other ministers clean up, hang up your cincture in the closet, remove your alb and place it in the gray hamper so it can be laundered, and if asked, stay for a quick debrief (no more than 5 minutes).
3. Reverence: Show respect for God and others by having a good attitude when you come to serve, walking with dignity, listening attentively, and performing your duties with care. Please do not talk on the altar or play with your cincture.
4. Personal Appearance: Appearance should be neat and clean with dress shoes (see Shoe Examples in the Altar Server Handbook).
5. Participation: We ask you to participate the same as everyone else at mass. You will be asked to pay special attention to what is happening on the altar with the priests and other servers and ministers.
6. Teamwork: You will be serving as part of a team of servers, with specific tasks to do. As individuals and as a team, the service you give is especially important to the worship of everyone present. Your team may have younger or older school aged children, teens, and/or adults.
