As followers of Jesus Christ, we have been commissioned to provide for the poorest among us and to work toward change in our social structures when change is needed. Catholic social teaching principles call us to provide varied opportunities for community members to live out their gospel call.
Please consider the community outreach and volunteer opportunities below.
Times are difficult for so many. The finance council and the parish staff have discussed how best the parish can respond to the increased need that we are experiencing through phone inquiries, walk-ins and the increased requests from various charitable agencies.
Since September 2009, the parish has been giving 5% of the weekly collection to a charity or agency that serves the poor and needy.
An ongoing ministry at Saint Paul the Apostle for 25 years, this ministry is making a difference in the lives of ’at risk’ youth. As a volunteer, you’ll attend mass and visit with youth incarcerated in a Sylmar detention facility. Transportation is available.

St. James Inn has always had a strong connection to our parish. With the help of our parishioners, St. James Inn was founded in 1988 by our beloved Fr. Patrick Traynor, CSP to provide comforting and dignified lodging and other related services to hospital outpatients or family members who have loved ones undergoing critical inpatient medical treatment in the UCLA Health System and other nearby hospitals.
St. James Inn now operates three homes and has provided over 27,000 guest days at no cost to guests. Members of the Saint Paul Catholic Community continue to serve on the Board of Directors and fundraising committee. Additionally, we host the Inn’s annual auction and dinner on our campus each spring.
