Religious Education for Children

“Education is simply the soul of society as it passes from one generation to another.” G.K. Chesterton

At St. Paul’s we have two programs for religious education for children, CCD and the Rite of Christian Initiation (RCIA) adapted for Children and their Parents.

Formerly known as “CCD”, this is the ministry of religious education for children of pre-K (age four) through eighth grade who do not attend Catholic schools.  Classes are held Wednesday afternoons beginning with snack time from  3:45 p.m. to  4:00 pm. Classes are held from 4:00 pm 5:15 p.m. in the parish elementary school classrooms.  The program, which is directed my Mrs. Irene Holly, begins in late September and ends in early June.  Registration is required.  A registration fee is $150.00 covers books, materials, insurance and stipends for the catechists.  Please contact Mrs Holly at (310) 689-6212 or at

The Rite of Christian Initiation (RCIA) Adapted for Children & their Parents is a liturgical and educational experience of growing in faith for children, eight years of age and older, who have not yet been baptized or were baptized but never made their First Communion.

The children, accompanied by their parents, learn what it means to be young Catholics.  They are prepared for Baptism, Confirmation, and Eucharist in an age-appropriate way that draws on the spiritual experience they already have and by providing them with the foundations of the Catholic faith upon which they can grow.

The RCIA for Children meets on Sundays after the 9:30 am Mass (from 11-12 noon).  At this time the children AND their parents meet to open the word of God.  For more information contact our Children’s Director, Mrs. Irene Holly, at or call Mrs. Holly at the parish office directly at (310) 689-6212.

“Nothing gives me greater joy than to hear that my children are walking in the truth.”  – 3 John 4
