Kindergarten

Kindergarten

The kindergarten program at St. Paul the Apostle School is rooted in the mindful development of the whole child as they embark on the educational journey to becoming creative, collaborative, faithful, problem solving, contributing members of society!  Led by our amazing kindergarten teachers and full-time teaching assistants, the academic and social curriculum is full of engaging, hands-on learning across the disciplines based on Common Core Standards and Next Generation Science Standards.

There are two classes of kindergarten annually.

Technology is integrated across disciplines.  Kindergarten has 2:1 iPads. Teachers utilize apple laptops, epson interactive projectors with Apple TV, document cameras, PS Learning for communication, and  the Common Sense Media digital citizenship program.

Curriculum Highlights:

  • Math – utilizes the My Math curriculum from McGraw Hill as well as creative teacher designed lessons such as the 100th Day Celebration and Lucky Charms sorting
  • Language Arts – focuses on phonological awareness, phonics and word recognition, and fluency to build strong reading skills; students break into smaller groups of 15 for more individualized learning in our Early Learning Center
  • Science – students explore, touch, and interact with STEM phenomena in ways that nurture curiosity and challenge them to explain the world around them through hands on investigations using STEMscopes curriculum (Science Technology Engineering & Math)
  • Social Studies – weekly activities with 6th grade buddies fosters independence and confidence as students learn to be contributing members of their community
  • Religion – Deacon Danny Amos is the kindergarten chaplain, and his weekly visits are full of exciting, spiritual reading and learning.  Kindergarteners also attend monthly mass with their buddies beginning in January.
