About RCIA
RCIA (Rite of Christian Initiation of Adults) is a process through
which searchers explore the life of the Church and the role of Christ
in their lives in an environment of care and support.
It is for people who have never been baptized, for those baptized into another Christian tradition
and for people baptized into the Catholic faith but have not completed
their initiation through Confirmation and Eucharist. In the RCIA
process the individual comes together with other seekers to share their
faith journey and to walk along a new path toward initiation into the
Catholic Church.
We meet every Wednesday from 7:30pm to 9:30pm. List below is the monthly schedule, for additional information contact Barbara Murphy either by phone or e-mail.
During our sessions we share our responses to the
gospel for the upcoming Sunday. Each person has a unique view on
scripture and their ideas are expressed with respect. Everyone is in a
different place with their faith and RCIA honors that. After faith
sharing we introduce a topic of Catholic life and talk about how the
Church views different ideas such as resurrection, salvation, the
sacraments, and service, among others. Part of the evening is
socializing over very good snacks and then reflection on the issues
we’ve heard presented. The RCIA team is there to help and guide and
answer the tough questions folks bring to the table. Each person has a
sponsor who is with them as they test the waters of faith. It is a
process we travel through together. No one is alone. We share things in
common even if our traditions are varied. We have people who come from
the Muslim, Hindu, Jewish, Buddhist, Lutheran, Pentecostal, and
Presbyterian faiths and people who were raised without any faith
tradition at all. All of us have come together for the common journey
toward the Catholic faith. Each brings with them the uniqueness of
their experiences and we all grow through it.
There are
many rites we participate in that mark the movement of the Holy Spirit
working in our lives. This is a living faith that we take into the
world with us. Community is important to Catholics and RCIA opens the
door to the worshiping community at St. Paul’s. The parish is with you
during this process, supporting and setting an example of living out
the gospel in your daily life.
