From the Desk of Sr. Stella Maria, Principal:

The value for the week of June 6th is:

CELEBRATE YOUR EFFORTS & EVALUATE YOUR GOALS.

During the last week of school each year, at my request, the Homeroom Teacher asks each student at each grade level to write on the School Learning Expectations (S.L.E.’s) that he/she has grown in throughout this academic year. The students’ response length is about one typed, double-spaced page. I keep them over the summer and have them ready to display on all bulletin boards the first week of school. Truly, it is an exercise that is inspiring. Hopefully, all parents are familiar with our S.L.E.’s. If you need a refresher so that you can have a conversation with your children, please refer to the Handbook on pages 6-7.

The Feast of the Pentecost

Sunday, June 12th is the Feast of the Pentecost. We celebrate the decent of the Holy Spirit on the Apostles and on each one of us. Please reflect on the following excerpt from an out of print book titled, The Holy Spirit, by Samuel Rayan.

Reflection

In Preparation for Pentecost

“The Spirit of the Lord is upon me” (Luke 4:18). From the moment of the baptism the Spirit took charge of the ministry of Jesus, of his life, of his world. What Jesus spoke thereafter was what the Father revealed to him and communicated to him through and in the Spirit. The deeds he did were henceforth regulated, determined, made meaningful through the Spirit. The wonders He worked, the signs, the miracles, all were done in and through the Spirit , and it was the Spirit that revealed their meaning to the disciples (John 16:13).

Our work is ultimately the work of the Spirit, and mission begins in our own hearts with the coming of the Spirit. The experience of Jesus at the Jordan is to be renewed in us at every hour of crisis, in every Eucharistic celebration, in every encounter with another. We are adopted by the Father, called his sons or his daughters, and given the assurance that we are accepted and that our work has his approbation.

Our Foundation

This week, on behalf of the entire Faculty and Staff, I would like to salute the St. Paul the Apostle School Foundation. Members of the Foundation, due to your: dedication, well run organization, perseverance, and vision and care for our students, you have lifted our spirits. We are thrilled with the expanded use of the Mormon Field, the first hand and first-class assistance from Mrs. Plucinski to our teachers, and all of the other great gifts you have shared with us.

Adam, as you hand-over your leadership role to Greg Curtin, we want you to know that we are grateful beyond words for the energetic role you have played as President. Thank you, thank you, thank you.

Graduation

When my next memo reaches you, our 8th graders will have graduated, so here are just a few reminders about Graduation Day on June 13th:

-          Monday, June 13th is a regular school day for Kindergarten – Seventh Grades.

-          The whole school celebrates our graduates.

-          It is an out of uniform day. All students must be dressed in their best clothes and all will attend the Graduation Mass at 9:00am.

-          All students Kindergarten – Seventh Grades, will receive a little treat in their Homeroom after Mass, courtesy of the P.W.C.

-          Siblings of the Graduates may be with their families if we have received a written note or email to their teacher saying so. All cousins and best friends of Graduates will be able to celebrate the Graduates by remaining in their own classrooms.

WE ARE PROUD OF OUR GRADUATES!

Graduation Prayer

Father, I have knowledge, so will You show me now,
How to use it wisely and find a way somehow
To make the world I live in a little better place,
And make life with its problems a little bit easier to face.
Grant me faith and courage and put purpose in my days,
And show me how to serve Thee in effective ways.
So my education, my knowledge and my skill
May find their true fulfillment as I learn to do Thy will.
And may I ever be aware in everything I do,
That knowledge comes from learning, and wisdom comes from You.

Amen.
